Wenn in Hellas die Götter erwachen
Nach dem bemerkenswerten Debütalbum „8.15-L.P“ (Okt. 2019) veröffentlichten Incirrina am 19. August ihr neues Album “Lip Led Scream”. Kurz danach konnten sie es auf dem Festival ihres Labels „Cold Transmission Music“ am 22./23. August im Club „Blue Shell“ den zahlreichen Wave-Jüngern präsentieren, die für dieses wundervolle, besondere Event nach Köln gekommen waren.
Das Minimal Synth Duo Irina Tiniakou aka Irini Tini (synthesizers, vocals) und George Katsanos (synthesizers, samples, drum machine, vocals) aus der griechischen Hauptstadt Athen bieten uns mit „Lip Led Scream“ ein melodisches und elegantes Musikalbum mit viel Finesse. Incirrina gründeten sich im September 2017, gut zwei Jahre später erschien 8:15. Für das zweite Album ließen sie sich etwas mehr Zeit.
Dieses Album ist gekennzeichnet durch die letzten zwei Jahre, die wohl keinen unberührt ließen und reflektiert die Unsicherheiten dieser Zeit. Eigentlich müsste man schreien, so Incirrina auf ihrem Statement zum Album auf Bandcamp. Aus diesem Gefühl der Ohnmacht und innerer Zerrissenheit entstanden 10 tiefgründige Tracks melancholischen Wave-Materials. Die Titel zünden langsam und finden Worte für Trauer, Angst und auch Wut über Ungerechtigkeiten, aber auch Liebe, Menschlichkeit und Älterwerden sind Themen des Albums.
"Lip Led Scream" startet mit dem minimalistischen Track „Not Live“, der sich im Verlauf stetig steigert: die Sounds werden dichter, die Melodie voluminöser. Irinas Sprechgesang wirkt eindringlich, aber keinesfalls aufgesetzt. Die leichte Dissonanz des Background-Synths machen den Track ausgesprochen spannend und reizvoll -- wie auch der Rest des Albums.
Das Video von "Careworn Face" ist ebenso minimalistisch gehalten wie die Musik. Das Video zeigt vier Frauen, einen gemeinsamen Moment und wie schnell er verfliegt. Es geht ums Älterwerden -- die Zeit lässt sich nicht zurückdrehen. Musikalisch ist es vom Ausdruck sanft und zurückhaltend ganz im Dark Ambient Stil. Die Vocals wurden recht zurückhaltend eingesetzt, wobei das Tempo für diese Art der Nachdenklichkeit ziemlich schnell und richtiggehend rastlos ist.
Das zweite Video und Single "Dance Of The Dark" ist im Vergleich zur anderen Veröffentlichung wesentlich postpunkiger gestrickt.
Jeder hat sein zweites Ich. ImText sieht sich die Königin als 'Krähe' -- der dunkle(?) Teil von ihr. Mit wenigen Mitteln -- minimalistisch eben -- gelingt es Incirrina in diesem Track eine dramatische Stimmung zu zaubern, die wie die meisten Titel etwas verträumt, melancholisch und entrückt klingen. "Lightwell" ist ein weiteres, schönes Beispiel für ihren melodischen Minimalismus mit der Prise Dark Ambient.
"My Only Land" schließt als Ballade das Werk ab. Auch und gerade hier sind die 80er Jahre Analogsounds besonders vertreten. Die getragene Atmosphäre könnte nicht besser musikalisch untermalt sein und für sein Genre ist dieser Titel schon ein richtige Hymne.
Das Album zeigt eine hervorragende Entwicklung ihrer musikalischen Fähigkeiten und zeigen uns was in Incirrina steckt. “Lip Led Scream” wirkt gereifter und melodischer als sein Vorgänger. Alle 12 griechischen Götter würden dieses Album in ihre Sammlung hinzunehmen. Es Lohnt sich ganz klar reinzuhören!

When the gods awaken in Hellas
After the remarkable debut album "8.15-L.P" (Oct. 2019) Incirrina released their new album "Lip Led Scream" on August 19. Shortly after, they were able to present it at the festival of their label "Cold Transmission Music" on August 22/23 at the club "Blue Shell" to the numerous wave disciples who had come to Cologne for this wonderful, special event.
The minimal synth duo Irina Tiniakou aka Irini Tini (synthesizers, vocals) and George Katsanos (synthesizers, samples, drum machine, vocals) from the Greek capital Athens offer us with "Lip Led Scream" a melodic and elegant music album with a lot of finesse. Incirrina formed in September 2017, a good two years later 8:15 was released. For the second album they took a little more time.
This album is marked by the last two years, which probably left no one untouched and reflects the uncertainties of this time. Actually, you would have to scream, says Incirrina on their statement about the album on Bandcamp. From this feeling of powerlessness and inner turmoil emerged 10 profound tracks of melancholic wave material. The tracks ignite slowly and find words for sadness, fear and also anger about injustice, but also love, humanity and aging are themes of the album.
"Lip Led Scream" starts with the minimalist track "Not Live", which steadily increases in the course: the sounds become more dense, the melody more voluminous. Irina's spoken word vocals come across as haunting, but not at all forced. The slight dissonance of the background synth make the track decidedly exciting and appealing -- like the rest of the album.
The video of "Careworn Face" is kept just as minimalistic as the music. The video shows four women, a common moment and how quickly it flies. It's about getting older -- time can't be turned back. Musically, the expression is soft and restrained in a dark ambient style. The vocals were used quite restrained, while the tempo is quite fast and really restless for this kind of thoughtfulness.
The second video and single "Dance Of The Dark" is much more post-punk in comparison to the other release. Everyone has his second self. In the lyrics the queen sees herself as 'crow' -- the dark(?) part of her. With few means -- minimalist, that is -- Incirrina manages to conjure a dramatic mood in this track, which, like most of the tracks, sound somewhat dreamy, melancholic and enraptured. "Lightwell" is another fine example of her melodic minimalism with a dash of dark ambient.
"My Only Land" closes the work as a ballad. Also and especially here the 80s analog sounds are particularly represented. The worn atmosphere could not be better musically underlined and for its genre this title is already a real anthem.
The album shows an excellent development of their musical skills and show us what is in Incirrina. "Lip Led Scream" seems more mature and melodic than its predecessor. All 12 Greek gods would add this album to their collection. It is clearly worth listening to!
